Bringing Moving Music & Visual Art to the Streets

Joyful Passage

NOVEMBER 2013

A NEIGHBORHOOD SERENADE WALK

Opera-Matic and the McCormick YMCA hosted a neighborhood walk to celebrate the special stories, hidden talents, and unique assets that every block has. In preparation for our walking serenade, Opera-Matic poets and artists took exploratory walks with members of the YMCA's Teen Reach program. Iconography was developed based on the city's Safe Passage program. "Joyful Passage" became a symbol for a walking and singing community.

Special thanks to the Ames Elementary Youth Orchestra/People's Music School, Block Club Federation, International Capoeira Angola Foundation, McCormick Tribune YMCA, Mozart Park, Unidos do Quilombo, Springfield Pumping Station, and YMAD Youth Making A Difference.

This project was supported by the Young Leaders Fund.
