Maggie Martinez

In Humboldt Park, we serenaded the lovely and powerful Maggie Martinez, also affectionately known as “the Iron Lady of Humboldt Park.” Magdalena Martinez is a community activist and organizer in Humboldt Park.  She has volunteered her time and effort for over 20 years and continues to actively seek new ways to better not only the community itself but also the lives of its inhabitants.  The song “Brick by Brick” was composed with input from family and friends through workshops, interviews, and by people sending in memories and stories of how she changed their lives.  This song is for all she has accomplished on her own block in Humboldt Park, but also all the other blocks of the city that she has affected.
