Opera-Matic

Bringing Moving Music & Visual Art to the Streets

Opera-Matic stands with all those who are rightfully outraged by the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and too many others.

We recognize that we don’t have the answers, and that as a majority white-led organization, we need to take this moment to pass the mic and LISTEN to our community.

With that in mind, we encourage you to support the work of the incredible organizations who are leading this moment in Chicago, such as Black Lives Matter Chicago, Brave Space Alliance, Chicago Freedom School, and the Chicago Community Bond Fund.

If you’re struggling to discuss these events with children, we recommend checking out these resources for talking to kids about race

And if you’re looking for more ways to get involved, please check out this comprehensive list of actions shared recently by Firebird Community Arts.

Opera-Matic programming is partially supported by grants from the Illinois Arts Council Agency and CityArts, a program of the Department of Cultural Affairs & Special Events. Opera-Matic programs are also made possible through support from the Safe & Peaceful Communities Fund, Night Out in the Parks, and more. Visit our "Support" page for more information.

This project is supported by a Community Arts Assistance Program grant from the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events and Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
